When the Soviet Union took a major leap by putting the first man made satellite into space-Sputnik it was a story of how collective human effort could take us to the unknown challenging the very limits we had previously conjured in our humble manifestations of our capabilities.

This very day, I wish to share our own small journey of the IILM Clairvoyance blogging team and also to acknowledge all those hands that worked silently patting our backs and challenging us to achieve more.

Our challenges still look upon us, but we wish to have more people come share this journey with us and now its time to pass the baton to the young Turks of Batch 2013-15.

IILM Clairvoyance took a long turn of events before it was announced as the official blog of IILM GSM Greater Noida campus and it would never have been possible without the belief that our patrons instilled in us.

To Mr Anand Rai, who first mooted the idea of having a blogging team and more so for pushing us to achieve more, I dedicate this small token of gratitude for believing in us.

Just like every great journey or cause begins with an ode to our elders, may I dedicate our new journey to our patrons and elders and seek their blessings:

Prof Sanchita Ghosh- Faculty Coordinator (Editorial club-IILM GSM)-who advised me to start a blog for the Editorial club

Mr. Animesh Saha (IILM GSM 2011-13) Former Senior OB - IILM GSM editorial club -my very esteemed buddy mentor, senior, guide and friend who gave the name Clairvoyance to the club and this blog.

Mrs Aarti Rai- For her confidence in our abilities to deliver.

Mr Deepak Sah(IT Manager-IILM):For his able guidance and timely and prompt help.

Prof Sonika Sharma- For her ever welcoming gestures of help and guidance

Mr Anoop Tripathi (IILM GSM 2011-13)- Co-designer IILM blog who added new life into this blog in its design.

To my blogging team members for standing by me in times of glory and chaos.

And above tell to all members of our IILM GSM family and utmost to our new family members of batch 2013-15

Thanking you,

At a time when most of us go about with our daily struggles with Life, one of our brother states is facing the wrath of Poseidon Himself it seems Devabhumi Uttrakhand has angered Mahadev himself.

It is in the heart of Science to achieve feats-the other day ISRO launched its first of a group of seven satellites to boost India's own Navigation system to be the eyes and ears of our defence forces 1500 kms from our borders on either sides with China and Pakistan

However when one sees Nature's fury on man, all magnificence of Science is dwarfed and so are we. The Uttrakhand story is not just a story of Nature against man ,it is also a tale of how Some Men stitch tales of Greatness at the cost of death(read politicians trying to make brownie points about relief work in Uttrakhand) and Yet other men who trade their own for saving fellow country men(ITBP, Indian Air force ,NDRF and Indian Army)

My friends in me lies an inherent weakness of finding only negative in things around us

For a change today Let me say If something can collectively take us all forward in this time of grief, then it is this

My fellow Country men , join not just hands, but hearts and heads and seek to revive Devabhoomi Uttrakhand like our soldiers have

Rest In Peace the Brave and Holy Departed

Work hard and smart,

Respect is all about give and take,

Life is all about what you make of it,

It’s the journey not the destination that counts,

It describes the way you take things which come your way,

There is always an option but we plainly ignore to take notice of it,

Every crossing, every turn, every junction, leads to an unknown place, don’t fret coz it’s the experience you gain is the gold you earn,

In the race to be in the larger picture of the world, we often ignore the small things in life which actually makes us real happy,

Seeing through the eyes of the life itself, makes me yearn more of it,

It’s about living on the go, meeting new challenges everyday be it big or small,

Living on the edge of the cliff with the struggle to be on top of it while being calm and composed makes you feel alive!!

Happiness is not in the things what we want but in those things which we actually get/need,

Random kindness and humbleness is the way of life,

We try so hard to become what we want to be but still it turns out in a way that we become what we actually are,

Don’t regret what have you done so far, just look forward what you still can be,

Life gives you things as and when it is needed to move forward/ahead but not the way as we want,

Music is my life,

I write what I feel like and the way it should be,

Trying to make the sense out of life as it should be, not the way it is portrayed.

Trying to make  a name source out of me to become a namesake,

Much to write but less a word. I stop here!!!!

Gold Rush
  • Demand for gold has been rising worldwide
  • gold prices in international market are calculated in US$. And these gold prices have doubled since 2008.
  • India has traditionally been a major absorber of world gold.
  • Gold has been a combination of investment tool and status symbol in India
  • Gold imports are positively correlated with inflation. (meaning, if inflation increases then gold imports will definitely increase.)
Why do people invest in gold?
  1. Share market is volatile (fluctuates a lot). And it doesn’t offer attractive return at the moment.
  2. To invest in share market / mutual funds, you need PAN CARD + DEMAT Account. Many people still don’t have it. = With limited access to financial instruments, financial markets, especially in the rural areas.
  3. Rural people don’t have awareness about Mutual funds, pension-provident funds etc.
  4. Inflation is high. So the profit (return) offered on back savings, fixed deposits, pension-insurance funds = not attractive.
  5. When you combine these factors: most people prefer to invest in gold / silver.
Thus, rising demand for gold is only a “symptom” of more fundamental problems in the economy (inflation, lack of financial awareness etc.)
  • Anyways, what’s the big deal? let the people invest in gold, after all its their money!
  • The big deal is, if people had invested money in banking / finance sector, then that money could be given to some needy businessmen, he’ll open / expand his factory = more employment + more production =good for economy.
  • But if people just purchase gold/ silver = that money stops moving. It just sits in their locker = bad for economy.
Another problem => gold rush = high CAD.
Gold -Current Account Deficit (CAD)
  • High CAD = bad, because it weakens the rupee.
  • There are two main villains responsible for India’s current account deficit: 1) gold import 2) crude oil import.
  • Given the energy requirements, we cannot stop / reduce the crude oil import, else it’ll badly affect economy.
  • Then solution is obviously: reduce gold import. But how?
How to stop gold rush?
  • One solution = increase duty on gold import. But problem is people will start smuggling. Then Government will not get any import duty at all.
  • Therefore, Economy survey suggests following things:
  1. Underlying motive for gold rush = high inflation. So first, Government should curb the inflation.
  2. Second problem is lack of financial instruments available to the average citizen, especially in the rural areas. (they don’t have PAN card, DEMAT account or knowledge  of how to invest in sharemarket/ mutual funds etc.). So Government should take initiatives to increase the financial awareness, financial inclusion.
  3. Government should introduce inflation indexed bonds. (then it is more attractive to invest in bonds, otherwise 9% return is not good, if there is 11% inflation!)
Inflation indexed bonds
  • Normal “bonds” work in this fashion: 10%, 2017
  • Meaning you give me Rs.100 right now. I’ll pay you Rs.10 as interest every year until 2017 and then I’ll return the principle (Rs.100).
  • Ok but what if there get so high inflation in 2017 that even cheapest ballpoint pen costs Rs.500! Then getting back the Rs.100 principle hardly benefits you. Because of this reason, nowadays people prefer to invest in gold rather than in shares/ bonds/ mutual funds etc.
  • But in “inflation indexed bonds”, the principle is linked with Inflation index. So, if from 2013 to 2017, inflation increased by 30% then you get 30% more principle (=100 original + 30) =Rs.130. this is good because your investment is protected from inflation.

My fellow Country men , join not just hands, but hearts and heads and seek to revive Devabhoomi Uttrakhand like our soldiers have

Rest In Peace the Brave and Holy Departed

Random lines, random thoughts, a small perspective

Inflation Indexed Bond a solution to GOLD RUSH and Inflation
